Youth Labor Committee Action Against Sears Makes Front Page

Youth Labor Committee is at it again, doing what they do best and asking for fair working standards from a huge corporation, Sears.
Friday, December 10th at 3:45, the YLC, the National Labor Committee, students and parents gathered to ask Sears to work with the Committee and proposed the idea of helping the corporation with their human rights standards so the workers can feed, clothe, and educate their families. The group picked Sears because it was the closest to the school and felt that “the company can unite with American students.”

YLC Members are gathering this Friday, along with directors from The National Labor Committee and representatives from many prominent labor organizations from around Chicago to pressure Sears to support fair working standards worldwide.

Sears is a global leader in retail and this action will directly impact millions of workers around the world.  This Friday is Human Rights Day, please come help support our efforts and make this one to remember, one where the rights and lives of millions of impoverished workers can finally notice a marked increase in their standards of living.

Youth Labor Committee discusses labor issues with Noam Chomsky

Members of the Youth Labor Committee and students from both Dundee-Crown High School and the Illinois Math/Science Academy spent Friday afternoon discussing labor issues with Professor Noam Chomsky.  Professor Chomksy is Institute Professor and Professor Emeritus of Lingiustics at MIT.  The conferences with Professor Chomsky, as well as many other leading intellectuals, are part of an ongoing lecture series held at Dundee-Crown High School by Social Studies Teacher and Youth Labor Committee founder Bruce Taylor.  The conference with Professor Chomsky, as well as a sampling of previous conferences with individuals such as Howard Zinn and Peter Singer, can be accessed at the following link:

Dundee-Crown activists get kudos from rock star

The Youth Labor Committee at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville may be a new group with lofty goals, but the young politicos already have the support of one of rock music’s most prolific activists.
